Dr. Thomas Dempsey

Dr. Thomas Dempsey

Dr. Tom Dempsey is a graduate of Lafayette College and  SUNY Optometry. Upon graduation in 1991, he followed his wife Wendy to Connecticut and began his career in eye care.  He joined Eye Care Associates in Prospect, CT as the practice's pathology and ocular disease specialist.  He took over Colchester Eye Care in 1997 and has treasured caring for the wonderful families in the local communities ever since!  He expanded his practice in 2006, opening Hebron Eye Care.

Dr. Dempsey practices family eye care with special interests in ocular disease, dry eye management, refractive surgery and contact lenses.  He also loves working with children.  He has two beautiful daughters of his own that you will feel like you know once you've visited his office.

Dr. Dempsey is one of the most caring people in the world.  He puts everyone's needs before his own.  He is the type of doctor that will call and check up on his patients long after the office has been closed not because he has to, but because he is still thinking about them and really cares to know how they are doing.  He truly loves his profession and patients.

He is Advanced Care certified, a member of The American Optometric Association, The Connecticut Association of Optometrists, National Kidney Foundations Team Connecticut,  The Colchester Lions Club, VOSH Connecticut (Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity) and is very involved with promoting organ and tissue donation.

Dr. Alexandra Sadanowicz

Dr. Alexandra Sadanowicz

Dr. Alexandra (Ola) Sadanowicz graduated from Loomis Chaffee School and went on to study Biology and Creative Writing in Waterville, ME and graduated cum laude in 2008.  She continued her education after college at the New England College of Optometry in Boston, and graduated as a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa honors society. Winner of the Marchon Eyewear Award for Excellence in Practice Management, Dr. Sadanowicz furthered her interest in geriatrics, ocular disease, and primary care by doing a residency at the Veteran's Affairs Hospital in Newington, CT, where she was honored to serve our Veteran population.  During the course of this residency, Dr. Sadanowicz gained significant experience in the treatment and co-management of macular degeneration, glaucoma, ocular trauma, inflammatory eye diseases, diabetic retinopathy, and cataracts.

Both during her education and after graduating, Dr. Sadanowicz has worked in several pediatric and specialty practices and loves working not only with children of all ages but also those with special needs.  Dr. Sadanowicz is an Advanced Care Certified Optometrist, CPR certified, and a member of the Connecticut Association of Optometrists as well as the American Optometric Society.  Dr. Sadanowicz was raised locally in Bolton, CT and is fluent in the Polish language.

"After my residency I worked at several optometry offices but decided that the best fit for me is Colchester and Hebron Eye Care. One of my favorite things about working at Hebron and Colchester Eye Care is how we take a really personal approach to eyecare:  We are treating the patient as a whole person rather than just a set of eyes. The pace that we keep in our office allows me to address the whole range of concerns that a patient has, rather than just one specific thing at a time. I also love how this office really functions like a whole family rather than a workplace. Everyone comes to work happy to be here, and you can really tell."

When not working, Dr. Ola enjoys skiing, snowshoeing, canoeing/kayaking, learning to surf, traveling, reading novels, and quilting.  Schedule an appointment with Dr. Ola to see why patients and staff are all raving about her!

Optical Staff

colchester sharon nayer

Sharon Neyer

Licensed Optical Manager

Sharon came to us with the most glowing recommendations from her previous employers. She loves and knows the optical industry through and through. She is willing to try new things and is excited to bring in some new frame lines in Hebron Eye Care. Come check out what is new!

I started in optical part time 30 years ago, my manager at the time helped me to find the passion for it that I still have today. I became ABO certified in 1989 and still continue to learn more about my field. I love helping patients achieve their best vision by finding the right fit and style. I personally love wearing glasses as a fashion statement but also understand how the right lens design and treatments are important. I stay up to date on eyewear fashion by reading 20/20, Eyecare Business, attending Vision Expo's and meeting with our frame vendors to constantly switch out our frames to the latest "hot" styles.

My hobbies are my family, husband of 26 years and 3 grown children that I adore. I have 3 Teddy Bear dogs that keep me busy and am very involved in my church.

I am so excited to be part of Hebron Eye Care, I love the professionalism and knowing that our patients are the first priority. We have a great team that not only cares about each patient but also each other, all with the same goal...quality care and great environment.

Colchester Heather

Heather Thompson

Licensed Optical Manager

I graduated from Middlesex Community College in 2014 with my Associates in Ophthalmic Design and Dispensing and two national certifications (ABOC and NCLEC), and I became a licensed optician in 2015.

My optical background has been a mix of retail sales, lab work, and management in different corporate settings. My goal has always been to get into a private practice and leave the corporate world, so when I heard that Colchester Eye Care was looking for a new optical manager, I just had to jump on the opportunity!

Colchester Eye Care is such a close work family and I am so happy that they all welcomed me with open arms. I have never met a nicer group of people working in one place! Everyone gets along great and I think the energy just flows to the patients and everyone, both employees and patients, have a great time as soon as they step foot in the door!
The biggest change for me is finally being able to have a say in what frames are in the store and there are so many different styles and brands that weren’t available to me in the corporate optical. Right now, I would have to say that my favorite frames are all of the ones with fun colors.

When I’m not at work, I am most likely at home binging some new show on Netflix and hanging out with my boyfriend, Matt, and our two cats, Whiskey and Tango.

Michele McCormick

Optician’s Assistant

Michele has been so loyal to Colchester Eye Care for so many years we had to find a place within our eye care family for her!  When we decided to add another assistant to our awesome optical team, Karen suggested talking to Michele.  She had always admired her intelligence and personality and thought she would be a great fit to our team.  We all agreed and Michele is our new Optician's assistant.

Michele comes to us with many years of extensive customer service, including retail store management, sales and marketing.  She is great at multi-tasking, and enjoys helping customers and meeting new patients!

"I've been a patient at CEC for many years  and  got  to know Dr. Dempsey and  his wife Wendy. Their high level of personal, competent,  and friendly service kept me coming back, in addition to their long-time personable & caring staff, including Tracy Gale & Karen Cullinen . I have referred my family members  and friends to CEC as I trust them for my eye care and for my family's as well.  When the opportunity arose to work part-time it seemed liked the perfect fit, based on my positive experiences.”

Michele lives in town and has raised three wonderful sons with her husband. She is an active volunteer in her  community currently with the Boy Scouts & the Colchester Land Trust. We hope you get a chance to say hello to Michele when you come in!

Robin Kelley Colchester

Robin Kelley

Robin has been a friend of the practice for many years. She is one of the sweetest people you will ever meet. We were so thrilled to snatch her up to come help our patients. She loves helping people and you will feel it the minute you meet her. She is bright, caring and loves to make people look great. Come in and meet her

I am so excited to be a part of the Hebron Eye Care family. I was first introduced to the practice after my son (8 yrs old at the time) had his eye screening at school and we received the infamous paper stating it was recommended that he see an eye doctor. Shortly thereafter he became a patient of Dr. Dempsey. Each year we both looked forward to his exam because we thoroughly enjoyed our time at the office. All these years later (he's 17 now) and I am so happy to call all these wonderful people my coworkers!!

When I'm not in the office, you can likely find me in a hockey rink or at a lacrosse game with my husband and 3 children.

There really is something about Mary! Actually, there are many things - she is smart, sweet, funny, organized, caring, honest and true.  To meet her is to like and respect her.

Mary has been a medical office manager for 25 years and she really knows her stuff!  The doctors that she worked for in the past could not say enough good things about her and we now know why.  We hope we never have to tell a future employer how wonderful she really is!!!

Mary is a state and federally licensed wildlife rehabilitator.  She spends her spare time caring for sick, injured and orphaned wildlife and migratory birds.  In addition to the wildlife that regularly passes through, she shares her home  in Lebanon Ct, with a permanent assortment of dogs, cats, horses, goats, a potbellied pig, and an African grey parrot. Needless to say, things are hopping at her house!

colchester Terry Brehant

Terry Brehant

Medical Insurance Specialist

Terry comes to us with over 15 years of medical and dental administrative work mostly in the insurance area.  She brings with her knowledge in insurance billing and verification, office management, front desk and customer service.  She will get the best possible insurance coverage for each patient, send out the claims and bring resolution to any denials.

I absolutely love working with the CEC family.  The personal touch that each patient receives from every staff member and doctor is second to none.  The patient comes first from that first phone call, to check in, to the pretests and visit, to working with the opticians and to check out.  It truly is an amazing place to work and consider it a blessing to be part of this incredible team and family.

Terry is a lifelong resident of Hebron. She and her husband of 36 years have raised two amazing daughters, Sara-Beth, a 5th grade teacher and Kathy a senor IT specialist, and have had many pets along the way, including Bianca the chicken and Monkey the geico.  There have been snakes, kittens, dogs, birds and cows!  Terry loves to spend time with family, baking, reading and volunteering at her church.
